'Twas the Night Before Christmas (2022)

Post by Mesquaki » Fri Dec 16, 2022 10:39 pm

'Twas the night before Christmas and the end of a busy day
When my wife and I settled in to do our flights in FSA
My coffee was set by my flight stick with care
Everything was all set as I adjusted my chair

The pups were all settled in their bed for the night
As I checked over the details needed for our flight
With my wife in her Cessna and myself in the DC-3
We were loaded with passengers, some cargo, and a tree

I selected my cargo and loaded with care
All packed in my plane with 4kg to spare
From Churchill to Rankin a one and a half hour flight
I knew I could make it before the end of the night

Checklists completed I started my plane
Blowing snow and very dark, was I insane?
My copilot beside me he smiled with pride
He was very excited to come along for the ride

We taxied on out to runway fifteen
Took a glance out the window to survey the scene
The runway lights lit our path in the snow
It showed in the darkness which way to go

Flaps one, course set, auto pilot at the ready
Full throttle we move forward - let's keep her steady
Pull back on the yolk, our girl begins her climb
It was now three o'clock, we were right on time

We climbed to thirty-five hundred, set our course to zero-one-two
My copilot then set out with his tasks to do
Into the darkness we flew across the bay
With autopilot set, our DC-3 flew on her way

Our cargo all checked, everything was alright
As we flew on to Rankin in the dark of the night
My copilot handed some coffee to me
Then sat in his chair and poured himself a mug of hot tea

Two miles we were from the top of descend
Eight minutes remaining and our flight would soon end
We radio the tower and chose our runway to land
The snow falling heavy as the ground crew were on hand

As we entered left base our landing gear came down
Darkness faded away from the lights in the town
Full flaps, throttle back as I guide in our DC-3
We land without problem for my copilot and me

Once parked at the gate we unload the DC-3
Packed full of presents and passengers and a Christmas tree
Refueled and reloaded we set off again
We wish you all a Merry Christmas from the Fox Den
