Name change

Post by Konny » Tue Jan 17, 2006 6:06 pm

Hi all,

I just got a tip from another webmaster in the flightsim community who told me to check if "flynet" is a trademark, and it really is. The system Lufthansa uses to support internet during flight is called "Flynet" and therefore I'ld like to change "the name of the game" before I have to pay any warnings.

Now I'ld first like to collect some ideas. Just let it go.... :-P
Preferable something unique ;-) with a suitable .org or .net domain being free.

SkyScribe, SKYNet (Terminator...), Skylog, Airlog, KonAir, Auto Tracking/Logging AirlineSystem (ATLAS), FlightLogger by Konny, SuperFLight, VAassistant, Virtual Airline World.

That's about it for now...

Actually FlyNet is a trademark. There are other companies that use Flynet.

Provided you dont use Lufthansas logo, and call yours FLYNet, or FLYnet (note the case) I think you're in the clear. Maybe just provide a courtesy link on the bottom of your page to Lufthansas FlyNet Page.

Indeed but you have to be very careful with such things. Companies take their trademarks very seriously.

I know this thread is very old, but with the traffic rising very fast the last months I'll soon have to look for a new server for FlyNET. I'ld like to use this to get a new domain name aswell.

So...we already have some suggestions - I personally like SkyScribe - but I'm still open for new ideas :)

FSFlyNet, SkyNET, FSSkyNET, VAFlyNET, FlyNETVA, NetFS, VAWorld (slight drift on Justins), FlightNET.

Just a few off the top of my head.

Since the system currently calling itself flynet is a way to for ppl to create there own airlines for flightsim
how about "FSAirlines".

Or maybe "KonnyNET"

I would propose the name "AirNET", but of the existing names, my vote goes to "ATLAS".

Only problem with AirNET is that it's the name of a real-world airline (AirNET Systems to be exact).

ATLAS is nice Konny, to me it fits in with the idea with this software in that it is part of running the airline, and much of the software that is used to run airlines in the real world have names that are also descriptive acronyms.

I like the "FSAirlines.net" idea. :) Nice, simple, and not complicated sounding, like "ATLAS".
