I can't import flight plan from CSV file in FSX-SE

Post by Durango » Fri Oct 27, 2023 8:45 pm

hi there,

I'm new to FSA so still learning

so far, all the features work fine, and I enjoy using FSA and flying in my sim

however, I found one feature that is not working in my case, so I am posting it here, maybe there is a fix for it I can do on my own

I cannot import any flight plan from a CSV file, using my sim FSX

I get error messages like
"Invalid column count line X, skipped"

where X is a number, of a line in the file, any number, any lines I guess, with the end result being that eventually, the file I'd like to upload is not loading

everything else works well so far, except this feature

can someone please point me to what I could do to fix this

I'm using:
Windows 10 Pro 64bit
FSX-SE
FSUPIC

thank you

The importing of the flight plan I am sure has nothing to do with which sim your using.

Without looking at the CSV file your importing I really could not say, export your current flight plans and compare the number of columns in it to what your trying to import, you should be able to figure it out. If you don't have any routes yet just create one or too manually so you can compare.

in my case it's not working for any file, not just one file

allow me to present the steps I am taking:

- before the flight, I create in the sim, a flight plan
- the sim is asking me to save that flight plan, and I do on a location on my hard drive, the default location where the game is set to save, like

C:\Users\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files

- then I switch to FSA website,
Flight Plan > Import/Export Flight Plan > Import Flight Plan From CSV file > then choose the flight I just saved > then Upload

after the Upload, I get those error messages, with any flight plan, so any CSV file saved

I could post a CSV file here, any of them I have, but I'm unable to load regardless if it's one file or another, any random file I have, will not load

that's why I was wondering if I am doing something wrong on my end and if I do, what is it so that I can correct it

Hello Durango,
I think you have misunderstood something.
You want to upload flight plans created in FSX to FSAirline?
This will not work.
Because they are two different pairs of shoes (as they say) and not compatible with each other.
You can only upload flight plans that are FSAirline compliant.
Because it is the flight plans in the FSA account that are meant.

FSX flightplans are pln-files...
FSA flight plans are csv-files...

Uploading the flight plans to the FSA account is an alternative to creating the flight plans directly in the FSA account.
Best regards
Mike

Mike is correct, we have no way to read flight plans created by the simulator, they are totally from the CSV files we use here to import/export flight plans.

yes it looks like you are right guys, what is saved from FSX is indeed a .pln file

so, it seems I was confused on my part

that being said, is any way to workaround, and create a flight plan in my sim and then import it to the FSA?

it would be nice, because in my sim, I have a more or less complex route, with VOR to VOR, or other waypoints, and I'd like to add it to the route in FSA, even if I am aware is optional, we don't really need to add the full route, but for my own records keeping would be nice

so, can I do it, somehow, or not really?

thank you

I think you have two options.

The easiest way would be...
You create your route at FSA and then enter the optional waypoints.

If you want to make it cumbersome...
-You download your VA's flight plans as a .cvs file.
-Then open the .cvs file (with a program that can handle cvs files).
-I personally use LibreOffice.
-When opening the file, make sure that the entry "comma as separator" is used.
-Then delete all routes except one.
-Change this "sample route" according to your ideas.
-Save everything again as a .cvs file and import it as an additional route at FSA.

The first line must not be deleted.
This line contains the meaning of the individual columns.

The main problem with this procedure is in the column "G"...
Here a code number is assigned to each aircraft.
And only by this code number FSA recognizes the assigned aircraft.

Maybe Joe has a list of the aircraft at FSA and the corresponding code numbers.
Otherwise you first have to create a flight plan at FSA for each aircraft individually and export these flight plans to get the code numbers.

You can open the FSX flightplan with Notpad++ to get the waypoints.

And don't forget...
With FSA you usually need one outbound and one return flight.
Otherwise you will not be able to get away from your destination airport.
Best regards
Mike

thank you, Mike,

is interesting as a process, as you describe it, but I don't think I'm up to doing it, as it seems prone to making mistakes and also with extra steps on our part to make it work

I was hoping there would be a more automatic method and simple in the background to do all the conversions needed

I'll try to enter the optional waypoints in the FSA Flight Planning page, but sometimes there are quite a lot of waypoints, especially for long-range flights

so far, I'm doing it via the Simbrief, generating the plan, and then copying/pasting the route, but that's not entirely accurate with the flight plan created directly in FSX since the Simbrief is taking the departure and arrival, and the airframe used, from FSA, and not as I've created from my FSX sim

but since it's just optional to insert the route, I'll just skip it for long-range flights and just simplify it

once again thank you for taking the time to explain how I could do it
