Stock Market?

Post by Brendanair » Sun Jan 04, 2009 8:24 pm

Anybody ever think of trying to incorporate a stock market system, where we could buy stock in each others' (or our own) airline? It would be an interesting way to increase/decrease revenue and add a little to the competition.

Actually, more accurately, it's not on ANY priority list for the admin team. There will be no Stock Market on FSAirlines. In my now decade in Flight Simulation, there have been multiple attempts at Stock Markets for Virtual Airlines. Every one has failed because no matter how hard the programmers try to prevent cheating and stock manipulation, it always occurs and so you end up with a small number of "ultra rich" people (we're talking TRILLIONS of Virtual Dollars) and everyone else being unable to do anything meaningful. This results in a lot of hassle for the staff because of all the complaints from both sides (the "ultra rich" complaining when their ill-gotten funds are taken back, everyone else complaining that not enough is being done to prevent people from manipulating the market, etc.), and just isn't worth it.

The only stock markets that even kinda work are the real ones which have hundreds of regulations and people who are paid (and usually paid well) to monitor them full time (and then some many cases) to catch cheating before it becomes a problem. Even then it's not perfect as the recent stock trading scandal that revealed several tens of BILLIONS of dollars didn't exist (a so-called Ponzy Scheme).

what about a sticky post in this forum area "new features and ideas" that kind of goes through what is on the request list, and what is NOT ever going to heppen, etc... it might save a few questions :)

That's what the "To Do" list in the Important Announcements area is for.

Yes I know that and you know that... but everyone posting repeatedly here the same stuff... doesn't... hence my idea to move that post here or have one here.

Cheers

Honestly, no matter how many you put up, the questions will still get asked.
