Speed limit?

I understand the speed limit below 10,000 ft. is 250 knots and I'm curious how much leeway there is in the client. I'm not a real pilot so i wasn't aware that apparently a 747 is allowed to exceed that speed to compensate for heavy international flights. I've been nabbed a couple of times on take off for speeding, yet my FMC is programmed properly. What's the absolute limit?

You will get penalized if you go above 260 knots unless it's been changed.

One thing to note, it sucks to get hit with it as you won't get a perfect flight, but when it's not an option, as long as you fly fairly frequently and don't take a hit every flight, it won't hurt your rating too much and you'll never know the difference.

Thanx, I appreciate the reply. I think 260 will be workable :)

In most parts of the world it is max 250 kts indicated below FL100 for heavies as well!

You'll only need a 'leeway' if your descent planning is bad. You should get in the habit of slowing to the correct speed in good time.
