Hi,
Anyone that joins FlyNET wants to fly. Does that person want to start a new VA or fly with an existing VA? If the latter is the case, how does he chose? As someone has pointed out, not every member registers for the forum so 'recruiting' messages will not necessarily be targeted correctly. The info should be searchable on the website anyway. I think we need a FlyNET/FSAirlines page with a list of VA's with an overview. The overview need only list the basics, maybe name, number of pilots, number of aircraft, number of routes, number of countries served etc etc. A search function could possibly also be available so that a pilot could easily search for VA's with a certain aircraft type on their fleet.

John

Could not agree more.
Currently there is NO way you can browse the major airlines without clicking through each one on the drop down menu on the LHS of your log-in page.
No wonder we have so many one man bands !
We NEED an Airlines page - doesn't have to show the money side - maybe just pilots, number of aircraft and where they are based. The current situation is not the best.

I agree. How about adding a little box for each airline where the owner writes something of their own?

Re: VA search
Mike, we already have an Airline Description field in the VA's profile. Using it would save space and utilize the space for what it's designed - a short advertisement of the VA and its purpose.

Re: VA search
I think there might be some value in a page where we give a billboard of some kind for the top airlines where we show the logo, description, count of pilots, aircraft, routes, flights in last week, etc.
Once question would be how do you define top airlines?
Most flights over a period of time?
Most active pilots over a period of time?
How many v$ contributed?
How many US$/Eur donated?
We currently have the 'advertisements' when you log in but that may not help the new applicatant when they are trying to decide what airline to join.

Re: VA search
i was thinking of this a few days ago... having a feature added that would calculate the total value for the va's... then have a section that would have say ten airlines that can advertise... just using random numbers... 2 spots would go to 50 billion+ companies... 2 for 25-50, 5-25,2 for 750 million to 5 billion, 2 for 500-750 million, and 2 for under 500 million. then airlines would bid money for a spot and the top bidder wins a spot in the company range... then there would be some info shown,# of pilots, money, # of A/C, destinations, funds, ratings, base, etc...
these would stay showing for the whole month, like maybe where the things from mods are... or somewhere near that area... so people can always see them...

Re: VA search
Hi,
I think the important thing is to list manufacturer of aircrafts so pilots can look for the VA's with the aircraft types they want to operate. Could that be incorporated into some sort of concise chart that someone could scroll down with a link to the overview page if they wanted more info? You could perhaps make some basic codes for manufacturer types e.g. :-
Airspeed = AS
Armstrong Whitworth = AW
Avro = AV
Bristol = BR
British Aerospace = BAe
British Aircraft Corp = BAC
Britten Norman = BN
Canadair = CA
DeHavilland = DH
Douglas = DC
Handley Page = HP
Hawker Siddeley = HS
Miles = MI
Shorts = SH
Vickers = VK
Westland = WE
The system can extract the info automatically from the database so the list remains accurate at all time. Entries could be name, number of pilots, pay %, number of routes, number of aircraft, fixed wing/rotary, long/shorthaul, manufacturers. Alternatively VA's are able to edit just their own info and keep it up to date.
e.g. :-
Classic British Flight Services, 34, 15%, 6835, 510, F/R, S/L, AS AW AV BR BAe BAC BN CA DH DC HP HS MI SH VK WE
One of many options that could be devised. The important thing is that pilots are able to find a VA easily. The list should only show VA's that have had recent flight activity say within the last 6 months or whatever time is determined.
