Hi,
I have noticed that once an airline's reputation is high enough and their routes are sensible all of their flights have a full passenger load. Obviously this does not happen in real life - no matter how good an airline's reputation they won't carry a full load on every single flight.
How about a way of making the passenger loads slightly more random? I know that the current passenger calculation formula works something like this:
(10 pax + 2 per mile) x (reputation/100)
I think it would make things a bit more interesting and realistic if there was a random number, say between 0 and 10, taken off the final passenger load on each flight, so airlines with bad reps still get less pax and those with good reps still get more - it is just more random.
Cheers
Dave

Hi,
Spare a thought for those of us operating the older/less economic aircrafts. There are many types where this function would make those flights unprofitable. For those operating the more common/modern scarebuses and boings, the loss in revenue would be negligable as they make obscene amounts of revenue and losing some passengers would not matter. The economics of a BAC1-11, DH Comet or a VC10 however, don't allow the luxury of a loss of passengers unless we get increased revenue through higher fares.
Regards
John

No. Back when they were operating, ticket prices were much higher and fuel prices much lower, thus the load factor required for them to make a profit was much lower. As of now on FlyNET, most aircraft built prior to 1970 must fly with a 80% load or higher to make a profit and in some cases, 95% or higher. This is simply due to the fact that with FlyNET, the pricing right now is based on current pricing schemes, not those of the 1960s and even at that it is highly over simplified.
A proposal has been made and agreed upon as the "best way forward" in terms of passenger loads, however it will take a lot of time to be implimented because of the amount of programming required. Combined with a "tiered" ticketing system, it will allow for more realistic loads, competition, and pricing to be done while not unreasonably burdening the VAs and preventing them from flying most of the routes they want.
