Attracting pilots

Post by Ionathan » Wed Dec 14, 2005 10:47 am

I have expressed my concern in another topic as well about what will happen when FlyNet goes gold and the VAs reset to start and my concern is not other than pilots may not find interesting to join that small VAs (I would join one myself). So, I come with some thoughts of making the envorinment attractive to pilots as well as a CEO has a purpose in an economic environment: to expand his VA but a pilot mostly cares about flying in many areas with interesting aircrafts and most prefer jet airliners.
So, I guess something should be done for the pilots too. Maybe the abilitiy to do something with the money in their personal accounts or some awards for the best pilots, the most prifotable ones or even somekind of a hall of fame based on how mush they fly and why not what they fly. I think it could boost FlyNet's popularity as well as the hosted VA's as there are countless VAs out there (outside FlyNet) offering huge fleets and countless routes.
I believe noone likes a situation with as many VAs as members.
As a colncusion "motivation for pilots as CEOs have".

There will surely be some motivation for the pilots as well.
Pilot and airline awards are technically finished, the only thing I still need to do is creating a background for the award-image. They will be given monthly to the pilots/airlines with the most hours flown, best flight ratings, etc.
Another thing you will be definitely be able to do is buying your own private aircraft.
Maybe there will also be the possibility for stock market gambling, casino games, ... and there's still room for new ideas, just tell me what comes in your mind :-)

Hmm...I'm on the fence about this one.

On the one hand, it would be GREAT if pilots had a way to spend their money (virtually speaking, of course), but at the same time, shouldn't it be up to each airline to attract pilots?

The way I see FlyNET, and I could be wrong about this, is as a service offered to airlines, not a way of making things easier for them as far as recruiting, etc.

It has been my experience that if people like an airline, because it's innovative, offers fun routes, a great livery, etc...they're going to join. It doesn't matter if they've got 10 pilots or 1000 on their rosters.

As for rosters themselves, I've always said that I'll take five active guys over 50 inactive ANY day!

I was thinking make your pilot's Dossier a personal Boasting page. Show the Number of FLights, a list of Destinations the pilot has flown to, Average Vertical speed on touchdown (a major bragging point) a pilots flight rating (percent) and be able to rank pilots based on all that. To be able to see where you fit in, not just based on how much money you have, but on all those other Criteria that make pilots great.

Maybe an Endurance award, for pilots with 3000 NM + without using the Compression feature.
A World traveler award, for the pilot who has flown to the most destinations in a month.
A Familiarity award, for the pilot who has flown the same route the most.
A feather touch award for every pilot that has an average landing impact of less than 200 ft/s
A "Smoldering Crater" Award for the pilot with the most crashes (because there will be some)

etc. By promoting this type of competiton, not only is it worthwhile to be a pilot, but it makes people develop their pilotng skills, or try a new route.

Maybe have a classes of pilots. Commuter, Provincial, Domestic, International, Long Haul, based upon the average flight distances of a pilots flights.

Anyways, just a few ideas I had in my head. Implementing them will be tougher than just thinking them up though, I hope that they can be added to this ridiculously magnificent program!
