More of a clarification than a new features, but when we are trying to figure out the cargo capacity of a helicopter, should we include what can be carried as an external load or just what can be carried inside the aircraft? Its not so much a question of can it be lifted but can it be carried for a useful distance, given that the minimum distance for a packages is 100 nm could a normal helicopter carry an external load for more than half or a quarter of its normal range?
Just wondering as I am reviewing an aircraft that was submitted as a new aircraft in our database, a Cabri G2 which is a small two seat helicopter, the submitter said it should be able to carry 270 kg of cargo, which I think is total payload, including pilot, passenger, baggage and fuel and I found a link to the flight manual which makes no reference to an external load but I figured it would be useful to ask the question so we can have a consistent standard.
