FSA Rating

Post by joefremont » Wed Sep 14, 2022 3:42 pm

Pilots often ask about the 'Rating' on there FSA Profile page and how it is calculated.

Its based on a sum of the ratings on all your flights, where a perfect flight counts as 1, a flight where you get 95% counts as 0.95 etc.

From that the ratings are

0-10: Second Flight Officer
10-25: First Flight Officer
25-50: Captain
50-100: Flight Captain
100-500: Senior Captain
500-1000: Senior Flight Captain
1000-2000: Commercial Captain
2000-3000: Commercial Flight Captain
3000-4000: Commercial Senior Captain
4000-6000: Chief Pilot
6000-10000: Commercial Chief Pilot
10000+: Senior Chief Pilot

What would you suggest as possible names?

interesting, not sure everyone would appreciate going from 'senior captain' to 'Commercial First Officer'.

But the commercial and ATP groups include a rank for 'Commander' and 'Senior Commander' and those sound like promising titles, maybe at 1500-2000 and 5000? At a rating of 5000, there would be 25 pilots on the platform who would qualify for 'Senior Commander'

I wouldn't say use those in that particular order. But they're a good start for a naming scheme to expand on the current rating scheme. We could also move about some of the existing titles?

I like the idea for 5000. Maybe we could come up with some at 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 then a last at 10,000?

Ruff idea:

0 - Trainee
1-4 Junior Flight Officer
5-9 Flight Officer
10-24 Second Flight Officer
25-49 First Flight Officer
50-99 Senior First Officer
100-249 Captain
250-500 Flight Captain
500-999 Senior Captain
1000-1999 Senior Flight Captain
2000-2999 Commercial Captain
3000-3999 Commercial Flight Captain
4000-4999 Commercial Senior Captain
5000-9999 Commercial Commander
10000 Commercial Senior Commander

What do you think?

Not sure I want to demote anyone by redefining the ranks, leaving the lower ranks alone wil update it to look like this

0-10: Second Flight Officer
10-25: First Flight Officer
25-50: Captain
50-100: Flight Captain
100-500: Senior Captain
500-1000: Senior Flight Captain
1000-2000: Commercial Captain
2000-3000: Commercial Flight Captain
3000-4000: Commercial Senior Captain
4000-6000: Commander
6000-10000: Commercial Commander
10000+: Senior Commander

In place and I updated the post on the top to reflect.

After I did it I am not sure I like 'commercial commander'. Part of me wants to do 'wing commander' but that sounds too military, maybe 'flight commander' would be better.

A little late into the discussion but I would personally prefer "Chief Pilot" over Commander which is usually used in military situations.

AKA, my top 3 would be Chief Pilot, Commercial Chief Pilot, Senior Chief Pilot.

LOL I see my title now and all I can think of is Tim Allen "The Commander" in the sci fi spoof movie Galaxy Quest. Never Give Up, Never Surrender!

Hey Sam, I had not heard of 'Chief Pilot' before but reading the job description on line it makes sense. Good we have someone here with actual airline experience. If there is no objection I will make the update as you suggest.

Thanks!

Yup the Chief Pilot is the King/Queen of the hub who deals with all the pilot recurrent training as well as performs the test flights to certify an airplane after maintenance has been done (such as an engine change). In some case the Chief Pilot also flies line routes as they choose.

When an aircrew has any inflight (or even ground) incident, the first person they get to have a discussion with is the Chief Pilot to explain what happened.
