That's a good idea you've had there but involves an additional capital outlay for the training airframes and most of our types don't have a specific version different to those that are used on our scheduled flights. The advantage of a TR U/T is that it can be given alongside TR's already given to a pilot who is experienced on other types. He can be restricted to training flights on his 'new' type but still make revenue flights on his existing types. Saves having to change someone back to a 'student' (which loses the facility for him to fly revenue flights) and then back to 'pilot' when he's done the training on the new type. It would make the monitoring of new pilots a lot simpler and allow 'proper' training programs to be put in place which he can progress with the minimum of supervision. I'm not sure that you can even change someone back to 'student' once he has been given type ratings?
