New Feature - Charter Flights

Post by joefremont » Sun Sep 20, 2020 8:40 pm

Hi flyers

I just release a new feature 'Charter Flights'.

This allows a pilot to book a flight for themselves from the airport they are currently at to a location at there choice.

To activate this feature you need to enable the 'Charter Flight' permission on there rank. You can specify which fleets they are allowed to charter.

When the pilot pushes 'Book Flight' they will have a button they can push 'Book Charter Flight' they can push, if this is pushed they will be taken to a screen where they can select which aircraft they wish to use.

They will then be taken to a screen where they can enter the code of the destination airport and select if they want to limit the cargo or passengers for the flight, exactly as they would if they were creating a normal route.

The destination airport must be within the range of the chosen aircraft.

Once the values are entered, a route is then create and the flight is automatically booked.

If the flight is cancelled the route will be deleted, the route is also created with a route limit of 1, so once its flown it will be deleted..

I have tried to keep this a simple as possible.
- The maximum sim rate for the flight is the same as the maximum sim rate for all flights for that airline, so if the VA has only 1x flights then the charter flight is 1x, if the VA has some x16 flights the charter flight will also be 16x.
- The ticket price is based on the reputation of the VA plus 20%. So if the VA has a 80% reputation the ticket price will be 100% of standard, if the VA has a 120% reputation the ticket price will be 140% of standard.
- The flight number will be 'CHARTER', the remarks are 'Charter Flight' and the route information is blank.

You need to edit the rank itself to add the permission to it.

So from VA Overview -> VA Ranks, select a rank to edit and look for 'Create Charter Flights'

Its working very well.

Just did a flight. Saves putting in routes to places you rarely go to.

Yes, great idea and with control over who can use it and what can fly it, even better, I plan to use this for my cargo fleet to give them more scope for bigger profits and not be required to stick to the scheduled passenger routes, far more realistic, thanks Joe :D

Glad you are all liking this feature.

The turning point for me to do it was when I heard VA's were giving pilots to create there own flights but the problem was they could edit all the flights. This gives them the ability to do the same thing but protects the rest of the routes.

It's great Joe, just one problem I've come across trying to set up my cargo fleet...

The plan was basically to just let them 'tramp' around wherever they find destinations with the best packages, the trouble is that the system won't let me book an aircraft that doesn't have any scheduled routes assigned... Is there a way that this rule could be ignored by the system after the 'Create Charter' button is pressed?

I think I just answered my own question... I assigned a single flight to the cargo fleet and now they can fly anywhere :D Thanks again for this useful feature 8)

Interesting. I just purchased for my VA an aircraft we have never had before, gave myself a TR for it and I can book as a charter, must be something else related.

Seems to be working ok for me, if I'm at an airport where there are no cargo fleet aircraft I don't get the option to book a charter flight and if I'm somewhere that has a mixture of fleets and book a charter flight I'm only offered a cargo fleet aircraft, when I book a scheduled flight I don't get offered cargo fleet aircraft... that's basically what I was looking for :D If I come across any issues down the line I'll report back.
