I just got back from a trip to Vegas. Round trip on Delta's E-175's from KSJC to KLAS. On the way back, after boarding, they actually asked 7 of us to move from the the rear to the front of the plane for 'balance' reasons. I of course volunteered because my long legs were not very comfortable in those 'basic economy' seats but I have never experienced a major airline having to re-balance the aircraft like that.

We used to do it all the time flying little CRJ2's. Usually everyone in a less than half full plane sitting up front and we ask some to please spread out in the back. I would think 175 would be beefy enough not to have to move pax but they may have had some heavy cargo they couldn't move.
