Whats a Good FPM

Whats a good FPM when landing? im sorta wondering about this becase, i dont know mutch about it . and would a -1194 fpm be good or bad

Not an expert but i would say bad,should be about 700/800fpm on glidepath and under 250 on touchdown.Hope this helps. :lol:

It depends highly on what you're flying (and thus how fast the approach speed is). A 747 will have a glidepath descent rate of somewhere around 800FPM. A DC-3 will have a glidepath descent rate of 400-500FPM. Once you're over the threshold (which you should cross around 50 feet AGL), you want to be flaring and reducing speed from your approach speed to land at the lowest possible FPM without floating. Normal touchdown should be between 100-200FPM on the high end. Most aircraft are tested for 600FPM touchdowns with no ill effect, but above that, you start getting into the "heavy landing" area where you have to inspect the aircraft before flying it again.
