Setting winds in free FLIGHT YAY or NAY

Post by Eastern 420 » Wed Aug 05, 2009 4:07 pm

In the real world airliners don't get to set there winds. so I would like to know should there be some way that the client can tell if you are setting your winds in free flight ? I think all flights should be in real world weather. it's come to my attn: that fligths are being done with 200 knt TAIL winds making a 15 hour flights in 11 hours. this is not real world flying .so I think if we get enough yaa's they mite be able to do something about it

SO THE QUESTION IS " Should there be a way that the client can tell if you are not using "REAL WORLD WEATHER" YAY=yes NAY=no

Eastern Horizon from Eastern Hops V A Will put the First "YAY" on the board

I say "YAY" to the monitoring of wind settings by the client. This is a great way to make sure that everyone is using "real world" conditions. If they want to change the winds then a penalty should be given.......just like when you increase the sim rate.

Neat idea, I don't think the API's we use will tell us if real world weather is on. But I like the idea of higher or lower bonus based on which realism settings are on.

I think this is not a sensible suggestion. Not everyone flies using real-world weather and people should be free to chose their own environment. Personally I use ActiveSky in FS9 and FSX's own weather gen in that. The real-world weather that FS downloads always seems to give me clear skies and calm winds for the area I do my flying in, hence AS is my preference.

EDIT>>> By the way this means I'm a NAY

Personally I'm not worried about the pilots that fly 15 hour flights in 11 hours. I mean that's 11 hours!!!

What annoys me at times is (sorry for bringing up an old discussion) when a pilot flies every single flight on 16x, even <1 hour flights

I always use real world weather, but I don't believe this is a big enough issue to enforce. We have a LOT other issues to work out.

I guess my beef is really when you are competing in the airlines for top spot
when one team is doing the trip in real weather 15 hours hops and other team doing the same but in free flight and using define weather and having winds up to 200kt tail winds making there trip 11 hours

my question should have been
" should the client deduct passenger miles if you are in defined weather using 200kts tail winds on a long haul"?

the client dose it if the use the 2,4,8,16 so I quess this is my rant for the week lol

I have FS Weather turned OFF as I fly using VATSIM/IVAO and use their on-line weather, or I use FS Meteo or Active Sky - all which give a better rendition of the prevailing weather than having FS weather turned on. (primarily because as it updates continuously ) . . . . mind you, I don't suppose updates are necessary when you are flying a 250mile trip at x16 . . . . not like to get many updates in 5 minutes . . . . .

Why not have a 'tick box' on the client asking if you use AVSIM/IVAO for flying so that it can disable the penalty... or something of this style

Since we can't find out if they are using real world weather or not (FS won't tell us) it's really a moot point.
