EMB-120 Brasília out of production?!?!

Post by ALT2826 » Tue Feb 10, 2009 10:21 pm

Just notice tht the Embraer Emb120 has been add as "out of production" in the FSA website. Well, tht is not true, with 352 orders they still been produced as you guys can see on the official Embaer website: http://www.embraer.com/english/content/ ... irm_orders
Lets see if they accept my editing :D

though it can still be ordered its not being produced on its own like, and the only way to get them is through buying one of them in a special order... its same deal with the B1900D... if an airline wants to buy a fleet of them, then beech or ratheon whoever you want to call them will make them for you...

no it doesnt... the only reason why they can even make one is because they share similar parts with the Erj's it costs alot for embraer to do this so the price at FSA would have to be changed... they dont have a production line open of emb-120's... and fsa wont allow one off aircraft in the system which is exactly what the "new" emb's are...

I just cant see what "similar parts" the emb120 share with the "new" erj's, apart for the avionics (wich is the same as saying tht it share similar parts with, lets say, bombardier "the rival") and minor generic parts as bolts and nuts! To recieve an order you must be able to build it, the thing is tht they are giving preference for the Emb120 ER series. You might be talking about the capability to transform an ERJ 135 in an ERJ 145 becouse they share the same framework on key fuselage sections, wich make it a better choice than the CRJ's! Nothing to do with the Brasília, though! On the other hand, the EMB110 Bandeirante is gone, the only way to have one, is getting an old second-hand one, in other words is out of production!
And, final, they have over 350 planes ordered and no lines open in the factory?!?!

The EMB-120 is out of production in the classic sense, just as the A300 is, but they reopened the A300 line TWICE for special orders (both because the EU threatened to deny landing slots of the airline in question didn't purchase Airbus aircraft first), so it's not unusual. Hell, Boeing has even stated they will even build new 727's or 707's if someone orders enough for them to reopen the line. This is common practice. Manufacturer's don't destroy all of the tooling until all of the airplanes are out of service to allow for damage repair and because of this, they can build an entire airplane if the demand arises.

You might want to have a good look at some of the airlines on that "Firm Orders" list as they no longer exist. Interbrasil for example went out of business in 2001, Rio Sul died with Varig, and Pantanal lost their AOC last year. The aircraft for the FAB were delivered in 1988, and they have none on order, so I doubt that the list is current orders. It's more like the full production list, especially as it gives 352 total, which is pretty close to the number produced before the end of 2001 (350).

You can have one on special order, and the last frame was delivered in 2007. There are ZERO on order today.
