I tried to make a flight to Hawaii. Is it not in the data base?

Honolulu = PHNL
Kahului (Maui) = PHOG

Wow thats pretty strange seeing as VHA is based there and operates 6x 748s 3 1-11s and 3 Argosies , 2 Skyvans and 2 Doves Interisland, Plus I keep my own person Chipmunk at Hana (PHHN) If you want to see how many airports there are take a look at Ventures Schedules.

Alaska and Hawaii are regarded by the ICAO as being in the "Pacific" region, thus they get "P" codes. Airports in the lower 48 get "K" codes, and the US protectorates/provinces in the Caribbean get "T" codes (along with the rest of the Caribbean island airports).

I see, so there is logic to it! :o

Why "k"? why not "u" for "US", or "A" for america/american, or whatever?

Actually Leif, the origins of the use of "N-numbers" vice "K" numbers is because Aircraft Registrations are governed by the ITU (International Telegraph Union) as aircraft registrations are actually radio station licenses. The ITU was founded in 1865, long before the ICAO, thus registrations continued to be assigned under ITU guidelines (see Article 20 in the ICAO Chicago Conventions). The ICAO was founded in 1948 as part of the United Nations.

Info on Aircraft Registrations can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_registration
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITU_prefix
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internatio ... tion_Union

Info on ICAO Airport Codes can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICAO_airport_code
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICAO

Edit: Sorry Leif, misspelled your name the first time...

Thanks Chris

I knew of the ITU rulings but was trying to keep things simple - IF the K-A registrations had been used we would have been in a hell of a mess here in the States

Thanks for getting the name spelt correctly LOL
