Las Vegas Airport Name Change

Post by Cat » Sat Jan 08, 2022 9:49 pm

Just FYI, if anyone is using current FAA charts regarding KLAS, you will find it is now called Harry Reid International Airport instead of McCarran International Airport. The change is so recent, I am pretty sure none of the flight simulator formats in use have that new name installed.

The name change is to honor the long time Senator Harry Reid while "cancel culture" demanded the McCarran name be removed as the person in question had a questionable racist background. The retired Senator passed away from pancreatic cancer Dec 28, 2021. The airport was officially renamed Dec 14, 2021.

Personally I don't know anything about McCarran, but Harry Reid was a stand up guy, weather you agreed with him or not he did his job honorably. I generally have not problem changing airport names to reflect the current name, as in our platform they are of little impact, its the codes that get everyone upset.
