Top Pilot awards, why?

Post by alemaobaiano » Tue Feb 09, 2010 3:28 pm

Come on guys, is that what we pay for? Sorry, but that feature is a complete waste of time and effort.

I just looked at it out of curiosity and apart from a helicopter pilot who could actually have flown his flights, the others on the list are 16x specialists flying complete 1000nm+ routes in 30 minutes (over 16000nm in a 24 hour period)

You've got my money for this year, but if you plan to turn this place into a high score gaming site you won't have it for next year. When there is a suggestion for more realistic operations, or something to make moving around the site or messaging easier, we usually get told it's either on the to-do list or would take up too much time/bandwidth/effort. When it comes to an utterly pointless addition that will only ever keep the 16x crew happy it gets added without any problem.

If this was one of the exciting new features that we have been promised, I will obviously have to redefine my idea of exciting

The top 3 pilots are now restricted to flights flown at sim rate 1.

There is absolutely no need to be angry at those little stats. If you are not interested in such things, just ignore them. But I admit, that the current stats aren't too significant. We are going to improve that, once we have more time, so that you will be able to see the rank of your airline compared to airlines in the same category (long/short distance flights, simulation rate...)

Btw. the pilots displayed in the box have nothing to do with awards. It just displays the users who have flown the most flights in the last 24 hours at 1x simrate.

why not do the division by the simrate instead of just only 1x?

Claudio, I'm not angry, I'm not interested and I do ignore them. However they will still be shown every time I access the page, and IMHO add nothing to FSAirlines.

Why bother? The improved stats that Claudio mentioned might be of some use, but "who did the most flights in the last 24hrs" is pretty pointless, and breaking it up by sim rate is just going to add to the load for the amusement of a few who have to be top of the list.

I agree Tyler, but you and I have both been here long enough to know that the chance to have "your name in lights" on the front page is going to be to much for some.

How long before somebody sets up a flight plan between two adjacent airports just to get on the list? I could do it here in Sao Paulo easily, Guarulhos to Campo de Marte, 7-8 minutes flying time each way in an A109, a couple of hours later I've got 12-15 flights in the bag.

Now I don't see that as the intent of FSAirlines, and it's not a game I'll be playing, BUT I do think it's a waste of effort that could be used elsewhere on the site.
